Standard Chartered

The simplicity of this design has a direct bearing in the ease of the executing strategy. Each cube is composed of four parts with central service core and the very nature of the cube s enables work to be executed whiles the existing Standard Chartered building is utilized by the bank undisturbed during construction works.

In the first instance, the initial 500m2 of built up space will be allocated to Standard Chartered. This space will be extracted from the first block, which sits at the corner. Upon completion, activities from the old existing branch would be transferred to the new one without interruption of banking operations of the existing branch. Once that is achieved, demolition works of the old branch will proceed to make way for the rest of development.

The principal design elements are glazing; curtain walling; and simple masonry and concrete works for the shell. The forms are simple and easy to execute. Most of the building avoids the strong glare of the west sun by the use of blind walls where glazing has been introduced. Carefully selected double glazing configurations where applicable are utilized to minimize solar transfer whilst offering transparency to the building. In its quest for greenness, the building strives to create an efficient balance between the transparent and opaque.

The key underlying strategies for greening of the proposed building is hinged on the following parameters: air tightness, waste management and green star accreditation. The consultants in collaboration with the developers shall work towards full green star accreditation by Ghana Green Building Council.
